-Proper surface preparation usually includes cleaning the area of debris, and loose material,
usually with leaf blower and possibly a broom. In colder temperatures, be sure to remove
snow and ice to ensure optimal bonding.
-NOTE: Damp surfaces are OK for Top Patch repairs. If standing water, remove as much water as possible with leaf blower, or compressor.
-If still dirty, use a pressure washer if possible. Top Patch will adhere to the top layer – so dirt, etc is not helpful.
-The surface Top Patch is poured on will determine the strength of the adhesive bond – if dirt /mud / snow are on / in the pavement – that is what Top Patch adheres to – therefore the Top Patch will not have the base to adhere to – but there will be some adhesion on the sides.
-Top Patch is unique from all other products in its tenacious adhesion, coupled with the flexibility to move with concrete/asphalt in freezing conditions.
Top Patch is faster making repairs, and significantly faster in re-opening repair areas for traffic. Under most conditions, roads can be re-opened in about an hour.
NOTE: Top Patch is available in “Super Fast” version, that is drivable in about 15 minutes. NOTE – this is NOT recommended for most installation repairs, and especially not recommended for preventive maintenance surface repairs.
-Yes, Top Patch can be applied on ramps and inclines, and its quick curing time ensures it stays in place.
-Top Patch is also effective as HFST (High Friction Surface Treatment, and/or anti-skid application too. We have different aggregates and the flexibility that the installer can adjust both grit size and quantity specifically for this reason.
-Yes, Top Patch is highly effective for repairing spalled concrete surfaces, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish.
-Top Patch is also more salt-resistant than other repair options. Salt contributes to spalled
concrete.
-Yes! Top Patch will eliminate the expense normally associated with parking lot raveled pavement due to vehicles dripping motor oil & antifreeze onto asphalt. Top Patch can make shopping center parking spot repairs –normally these raveled parking spots have to be sub- contracted with asphalt paving contractors who cut out the damaged area (about 5’ x 5’), remove damaged asphalt, send to a recycling center, prep, spray binder, new HMA, roller or vibratory plate tamper, seam sealer. Typically, about $350 to $600 per parking spot. With Top Patch solution: simply install Top Patch over the damaged area.
-Top Patch will adhere to the raveled, damaged, asphalt! Trowel, DONE. Top Patch repairs typically cost $200 to $300 per
spot. Saving $150 to $200 per parking spot! Plus the Top Patch repair will be more oil/antifreeze resistant.
-The Top Patch repaired parking spots may be seal coated in 2 hours – never need to come back a second day to seal coat.
-Delaminations (shallow potholes) Top Patch’s unique adhesion will quickly & easily repair delaminations for a small fraction of the cost of HMA cut out, removals, prep, binder, HMA, roller, seam seal. Delaminations are one of the starting points for future potholes.
-Alligator pavement – Top Patches high adhesion and quick cure will create a unique bond and stop alligator pavement from becoming a large pothole.
- ADA height offsets, or any repair in concrete or asphalt that is ¼” or higher – Top Patch can be applied to almost any material as a layer to equalize the height differentials – such as sidewalks that one slab has risen or one slab has sunken.
Yes particularly in larger installs and / or with a longer / wider blade to level material.
However:
1. You will use more Top Patch than hand installing with pool trowel, etc.
2. You should still feather the edges into the solid surrounding pavement about 1-2”
Top Patch may be ground using an angle grinder with a diamond cup wheel. NOTE: Grinding Top Patch is like grinding asphalt or concrete – best to tarp off areas or masking tape areas not intended to have Top Patch.
-Be certain to wear dust mask designed for concrete/asphalt grinding and safety glasses.
-Vinyl gloves for installing and cleaning with acetone, however, for just installing, Nitrile gloves work great – they just fall apart with acetone.
-Long Pants – old – Top Patch will not wash out
-Long sleeve shirts - short sleeve shirts are great if you are neat) Old – Top Patch will not wash out
-Old shoes or boots
- Safety glasses – tinted if working outside in the sun. We especially recommend safety glasses when cleaning with acetone
-Suntan lotion for outside work on areas not covered in clothes
-If grinding old asphalt or concrete or Top Patch – use a suitable mask designed for grinding asphalt/concrete.
